Nine of Wands. Tarot Lesson Basics.

The NINE OF WANDS in the Tarot is about persevering even though you might be exhausted. It’s giving until it hurts and then you give more. This is right along the lines of yesterday’s message on conjuring up strength from within.

You’ve been losing a battle and everyone knows you’re losing, yet you keep going as far as you can go regardless. You might be falling behind or stand no chance of winning, yet you keep going and end up making it! Often times, the Nine of Wands can show you winning or obtaining something you desire, but not without a fight that exhausts you or runs you down.

The image in the Nine of Wands typically shows a figure standing strong ready to go to battle. This may show someone who has no reason to be on the defensive, but they’re overall disposition is as if they are in fighting mode. They are primed and on guard ready to strike. You can be feeling as if everyone is against you, but you refuse to back down or compromise your integrity even if it means you stand alone.

The Nine of Wands can also point to someone who is self-preserved or self-protecting and on high alert. Circumstances may actually be fine, but you feel as if you’ve been dragged through the ringer clawing, kicking, and fighting back. Now you’re standing there holding the Wand almost leaning on it angrily looking around to see if anyone is going to try and take a piece of you!

The Nine of Wands is also the card of the warrior or a soldier ready to go to battle. In a reading, this can be that you’re being paranoid about someone who is back in your life again after they previously betrayed your heart. It might be an ex-lover who did you wrong, then you broke up, and they’re back with you again. The Nine of Wands can reveal you to be feeling paranoid that they might do something that negatively affects you again. This is where you’re on high alert.

This card can be telling you to keep going with a project or a job where you’re ready to throw in the towel. It can also be saying that your paranoid feelings are not unfounded and to continue to watch your back around someone. The Nine of Wands is a reminder that you’ve come so far, keep going, you can do it!!

In a love reading for someone single asking about a potential’s personality, this can show that person as having tremendous strength no matter what. You don’t want to cross this person negatively as they will attack. They might appear hard and rough around the edges, but this is because life may have made them this way. If you look deeper, you’ll find a trusted friend who has your back and will go to battle with or for you.

If you’re single and asking about love, then this card can be asking you to not give up and keep searching. This can reveal that you’ve been frustrated and over it, but the Nine of Wands says that love is coming, so keep the faith and persevere. The Nine of Wands can be the opposite of that where it’s saying that you appear to be standoffish and defensive. This is not welcoming potentials into your environment. You would need to evaluate if you need to make changes or not with how you appear to others by being softer, kinder, and friendly.

If you’re already in a love relationship, then this may be a challenging card to receive. It can say that you or your partner are being defensive with one another. It’s as if you feel they’re constantly criticizing or attacking your every move. You are on the defensive even though they may have stopped criticizing, but the scars are still there. This would be a warning card to ease the mind of one another. Sometimes no problems are evident in a relationship, but one of the partners feels defensive for reasons you cannot figure out. This is someone ready to go to battle, even though there is no reason to be.

In the movie, “I Am Sam”, the Rita character is a good example of the Nine of Wands energy. Someone who is ready for battle. She answers her phone and it’s her estranged husband asking how she is. With hostility she insists she’s fine, but responds again, “What do you mean what do I mean by that?!” You constantly feel as if you’re tip-toing around your partner because they’re touchy about every little thing you say or do. This is someone tense and on guard. This is the Nine of Wands.

This card can continue to show up for a couple who have surpassed their expiration date. It’s a never ending cycle of feeling a hostility or defensiveness with the other partner even though they’re not doing or saying anything wrong. The Nine of Wands is feeling as if there is a constant struggle in the partnership. This may ask you both to lighten up, put down the wall, and meet one another half way.
